Workforce Pathways for Youth/STEMLinx

Overview

Workforce Pathways for Youth/STEMLinx is a 36-month grant awarded to OIC of America and (4) OIC affiliates nationwide from the Department of Labor (DOL) Employment and Training Administration (ETA). The grant is effective July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2025.

The jobs of the future are in STEM and the workers of today, tomorrow, and the future are the children. To prepare them for work and get them attached to our programs, we launch Workforce Pathways for Youth/STEMLinx.

Four central tenants that guide the STEMLinx program:

  1. Provide a student-centered learning environment
  2. Deliver real-world, relevant activities that foster meaningful learning
  3. Nurture STEM interest, identity, and mastery
  4. Develop a participants’ skill set for a technology-reliant workforce

Four levels of learning to build STEM interest, mastery, and identity:

  • STEM Explore: Career Assessments / Intro Workshops / Coaching
  • STEM Ready: Digital badges / micro-credentials / Workshops
  • STEM Works: Internships / Job Shadow Days / Hands-on Experiences
  • STEM Connects: Connecting to post-secondary education or employment
